I had my first nightmare last night...It was an interesting one but nothing to really stick with me...Although with all the talk about post apocalytic occurences, my subconscious aborbed it and regurgitate thru sleepy thought...My dreams always lack completion...But it relates to never being able to quite grasp whats just in arms reach in the dream....for me it always a loved one...If I could only get there!

Dear diary,

How do you tell someone you love them, if you only have known them for but a short second...does love like that exist anymore??? or did I have my time already...Am I left with a distant memory of what it was like being in love...I want to speak profound words hoping to cause the catalyst...I swear the infatuation is authentic...I remember feeling with alot more than just rationality spinning around my head...I want to tell you everything and nothing in my life and yet I cant even pucker up the words to ask you on a date, you know a date? dinner, a movie or something inbetween...the exchange of words needed to breathe life into my heart...I want soft spoken compliments, under the table hand holding, stolen glances...do any of those sound intriguing??? For now I live vicariously thru melodies and tunes hoping one day one of the heart felt love songs will somehow find their way into my life...

Chuco for me was a photo in the sea of web candy at first...What drew me to his image was the vision and essence in the look...Out of all the images I saw on the hunt for a reference for this painting, he shined the brightest for what I had alread seen in my head...It wasn't until some admirers recognized who it was in a show I participated in that I became aware of his legacy..it also struck me odd that it wasn't just one person who recognized him, it was a few...Feeling shameful that I wasn't fully aware of his persona, I did my research...Later finding out that he was an O.G. Tattoo Legend from LA...See for me B-boys and Zoot Suiters were my icons, I looked up to the pachuco heritage in my family and the breakers I had always known about for symbolism of true heart and presence... But these are my feelings...below is a section of what CHUCO really was...They said it better than I ever could.(the section below was pulled via...www.convictedartist.com)

California tattoo legend Edward "Chuco" Caballero died on November 2008 following a battle with an aggressive form of cancer; just as he had become one of the nations most familiar faces in the tattoo and lowrider scene. Thousands of family and friends mourned his loss as the “walking canvas” was laid to rest at the All Soul's Cemetery, in Long Beach, California on Friday, November 7, 2008.

He was known to many as El Chuco and simply Chuy to others. Many considered the southern California native the true grand daddy pachuco with a natural zoot suit persona. He was remembered for his Calo dialect as he told stories about his life growing up as a pachuco in the in the 1960's. He remained true to the style all the way to his recent death.

As a pioneer of the tattoo community, Edward "Chuco" Caballero spent many years touring tattoo conventions worldwide. Just like tattoo legend Ed Hardey, Chuco too has become an legacy in the world of tattoos.

He earned a good reputation in the tattoo & lowrider scene, and was sponsored by major tattoo, lowrider, and zoot suit clothing companies who splashed images of him all over magazine & television advertisements.

Just like tattoo femme fatale Kat Von D, Edward "Chuco" Caballero became an immediate celebrity and gained the respect of tattoo aficionados around the world.

Fans mourning his recent death have gone as far as tattoo portraits of Chuco on their bodies, as well as sport T-shirts with his image. His body’s monotone black and gray tattoos reflected cultural, religious and prison themes. Chuco was a true fan of Hollywood gangster Robert De Niro and confirmed his admiration for the celebrity by tattooing a portrait of De Niro's face on himself. Chuco was also known for his tattoos of American actresses Susan Hayward, Marilyn Manroe and the Statue of Liberty.

"I grew up in the 60's," quoted Chuco, at the Body Art Expo in 2005 prior to his death, "when you could own a tattoo only if you were a gang member, a drug addict, or in prison. Now, celebrities and movie stars have made tattooing mainstream."

I'm loving this song right now, letting go is sometimes the hardest thing a human has to do...Its easier just not to get to caught up in a situation...I dont know, I'm still conflicted about this idea...I'm by nature an intravert, which makes my social circle very small..In a way its just lends its hand to the fact that i'm an artist...Painting almost always dominates any sort of plans I would have for the night...But there are times when I find myself wanting some form of interaction...This is great but when your that guy in the bar that is a natural born observer, you give off that creep vibe...Although no harm is intended, rather its a fascination of human interaction...The bars are a great viewscape for various types of connections....Both sinful and genuine...

I did this oil painting back in art school, but because your only given but a few short days to have it complete it, it went unfinished for about a year...Then one day I'm chillin with my girl Adrienne and she makes a remark that I should post this painting as my facebook image...Thinking about it a little more, I decided that night I would finish it...I'm really not one to post pictures of myself, I think my work is really my true identity more than how I appear...What intrigued me more about this painting is that even after I told them who it was people still thought it was someone else, I would just laugh...

I truly believe that the emotion your carrying at the time of a painting is passed thru the painting as a filter of sort...well at the time of this painting, a friend and I were on a serious crush mission (crushing- to bomb excessively over the course of a set period of time)...It was obsessive at one point...At the time my moniker was really about flamboyancy...a real smug attitude towards life in general..Alot of indulgence, vandalism being the HUGE one...So when painting this I wanted to convey that attitude, that fuck you mentality!!! This is what came out of me...The yellow tone was a reference to Yellow Bastard in Sin City whose attitude was this "above the law" type shit...and the pinks were referencing a drunk with color attitude, I had...Always geeking on that next handstyle or another succesful night of bombing...All in all this was a painting that was a period in my life that came with a lot of life experience and this will always be a constant reminder of the good and the bad...

I've been absent for a short minute. Been busy spreading myself extremely thin with various projects as well as getting a few commercial jobs in the process, I promise to start updating this as much as possible.

So let's play catch up in a short paragraph jus to bring you up to speed with life, I've in the past two months managed to get a promotion(woop woop) but on the down side its taking away from my art/business. But you got to make money to spend money, I think thats how it goes. As well as starting a new collective with my bestie Josef aka Gossip Photography. My other bestie moved to Denver which now leaves me with a reason to shoot for a show up north with her help..Shes already been on the grind finding galleries that would fit my steeze...All the while trying to double the amount of shows I did last year which for the beginning of the year is looking promising...With a possible show in Santa Fe(SWEET!!!) I've slowed down on the scratchbord and resumed stead fast work with REFRIED, really trying to push into the market this year. A few limited items as well as a few mass releases, I'm really excited for the REFRIED toy release but for now its going to stay under wraps...All in all its going to be a fun and exhausting year, did I mention I found an amazing designer by the name of CHEY boogie, who as we speak is finishing up the womens line for a sub-brand under REFRIED...Sub-label with no name as of now, I'm leaning towards METIROSA(will save that story for another post)...I'm really excited to work with chey cause her work ethic is bomb and shes really pushing me to get my shit together...for now I think I've spoken to much so the next couple posts will be photos of finished as well as progress pics of projects for the future...Hope to see you all back here.

My apologies for not posting anything these last couple of weeks, the holidays are always a busy time and unfortunately there's been a nasty bug going around and I happily caught both of them. Being sick is good cause it gives you a reason to play hooky but it also cripples the creative and motivational bone in my body. So my sites been dormant for a bit, its also given me plenty of time to go threw and really nit pick my site for improvements.

Which brings me to my post, For the next couple of months I will put my site into hibernation for some sprucing up and cleaning. By the way during art school I rebeled against the technological part of my education carrying the ol skool mentality that I do. Believe me it just crippled me in the end( so if there are any computer savy people out there, that would be willing to trade for REFRIED product of art). I need some small work done

The Big "Hurt" and I went out Saturday night to a friends(Angelica) end of the year dance party...Her store Tokyo Hardcore, go check the goods if you get a chance...They have some gems...especially in Burque...It was being held at Nese's Gallery...and turned out to be an interesting night with wee hour walks in icebox weather...It was fun, its always dope to get some brother time with "Big Hurt" in especially when theirs booze, pool, and late night walks in the Burque..Here are some pictures of the wall that was done for the event(Apologies for not knowing the artist)...

So if you have read any of my blogs within the last year, you have come to understand that POSE AWR/MSK, The Seventh Letter, We Are Supervision, is the biggest influence on my work...His style of stacking images like a totem pole is very reminiscent of vintage Horror Posters...I love it!!! He also utilizes what they call "special effects" to the images to give them a hyper sense of movement, again I Love it!!! These are all things that I have been practicing and working on, eventually I'm working towards my own development in this style...There are few artists in my world that have such a strong style that makes me want to own the techniques and have them fully developed and equipped for the future...

Today was a good day, the weather was a bit gloomy and cold...That was a good enough reason for me to stay and get some diggin done..."La Nuevalitra" aka Mona is turning out really good...I wanted to keep the integrity of Mona's eyes...Their very big and enthralling, just one of the reasons I was attracted to her look...But still keep with the mysterious qualities of the concept...I was also really inspired by my good friend Josef Jasso recent show(now showing at Pop Gallery in Santa Fe)...He utilized tears to visually represent pain and I really loved that about the prints...All in all were moving forward at a positive pace....

New Beginnings

I've lately been falling into a direction of new beginnings, with people as well artistically...New hope, New curiosity. I believe curiosity is humans greatest attribute, it keeps us ever wide eyed to the possibilities of exciting and spontaneous situations and experiences...With a new year snipping at our heels I find myself trying to organize the next year of my life, only really wanting spontaneous love, surprising kisses, and a piece of my heart that is open to growth and curiosity...

These are progression photos of a new panel I'm working towards maintaining the overall concept and theme of my series Devil's Gasoline...With the past panels in this series really encapsulating strong emotions and desires through the visual representation of a facet of death.

"The Ghost of Serpentine's Spine takes on guilt and regret...While in "You Bring out the MONSTER in ME" tackles the relationship between two people and the cause and affect of sudden death...Leaving the person lost with guilt of "A what could of happened"...mentality...The monster embodies my own feelings towards losing the love of my life and what kind of person it would make me....

Which brings me to my new panel "La Nuevalitra" kinda of the birth of a slang word meaning "New Light" For me she really is the visual representation of my feelings towards the new year...the light at the end of the tunnel...The hope after the feelings of loss appear..

This is my new favorite movie, what can I say...One of the biggest influence in my life is scary/horror movies...I was fed horror flicks as a child, my grandma was obsessed. her shelves were filled with endless titles of classic horror...But this flick is on a whole other level of creepy! The fear feels very organic, I spent 90% of the movie with chills running up and down my spine...Not for the faint of heart, it will definitely leave you with a sleepless night....

I also like to do religious work...After the Mother Teresa I did for my mom...I wanted to do something that I had always grown up seeing...Of course Lady of Guadalupe came to mind. Living in Catholic/Hispanic environment she made many appearances through my childhood...If just felt natural to illustrate her, and the end result was something I enjoyed looking at, to this day she is beautiful to me...(Pardon the EGO)...My technique could always use work but the natural progression of the panel really evolved into a piece with hidden tonal meanings...I think this was also the first time I had worked with gold leaf, its like learning to draw all over again...

"Silver Skate Jam"

It was a nice day to paint...I met up with my girl Dre and we embarked to silver skate shop for a day of painting. She was a doll and helped with all the fills...Bless her heart for putting up with my intolerance...But we braved thru and the end result was better than I hope...It was also good to paint with NESE (CHE), CHALE, SMUG...Everyone put down equally, I'll be posting a flick of the entire thing NESE's piece was on point as usual...

I've been working on this new character in my world, I'm calling him "Rosie." He's a half skull half rose...He was born in my home room in middle school..There were these kids that would doodle old school roses and lowrider rims...I always envied them so much I could never get them to look like theirs...I eventually taught myself..In a way it pushed me to work harder on the rims and the roses...Any who, all in all it was a great weekend, I haven't picked up a can in awhile, so to get down on a wall, it felt good just to chill and freestyle a piece...

GO! Festival on Gold St. was a smash this year...If you happen to miss the festivities, you SUCK! Just kidding but you did miss out! There was an exceptional pool of artists/people...Everyone was so welcoming to the new fish and it really felt like a community of creativity...The diversity of styles as well as personalities was really the highlight of the weekend...I met so many people that left a lasting impression with me...I've decided I will be dedicating a post each day to each individual artist that I met...I took my own pictures but I will also be posting links to their websites/future events...I'm going to try to get the first up tonight but I really want to get all the information I can to present to you guys so it might take me a day or so...Please keeping checking back over the next couple of weeks for artist updates.

These ladies are part of my "Smoking Kills" series. It's a limited 10 panel run encompassing this concept/theme. Each lady is a manifestation of a different strain of Cannabis. Having had a extensive interest in the attitude towards Cannabis and the culture surrounding it. I decided to take my time researching the individual strains. Studying the qualities of each IE: Visual attributes, Region, Smoking characteristics, etc.... I feel that each painting is the ideal beauty...

This is the first look at an upcoming collaborative toy between Original Fake and Undercover. The iconic Undercover teddy bear graphic becomes a vinyl figure and gets paired up with the Kaws Companion character, which is lying in the arms of the bear. The toy seems to be coming in two colorways and a September release is expected. Via Highsnobiety.com

I came across this gallery of photos on www.juxtapoz.com by Marc Da Cunha Lopes ("aisakie") depicting the factories where video games come from. The photo above is the place where all of the magic happens surrounding the game of Tetris.

This is so sick, the idea of showing a factory creating the enviornments that we have all found ourselves lost in interaction with. This is one of those ideas that, you wish you had thought of it first...Especially with how big gamin has become...Pure genius.

Went out to LA(Los Altos Skatepark) to peep ES's Big Game of Skate. Good Looking Beach Zone for helping to put this event on. Had a few REFRIED ROLLERS participating. My lil brother/team manager aka The Big HURT, not pictured sorry I was slipping on the pictures it was hella hot!!! JD aka "Lil Newport" aka "Mafioso." He's my first team rider, I'm super exicted to work with this kid, he has that go get it attitude. My main dodoo stain PAPA Z was out and repping REFRIED/ Team Dank.

Newport got out first round but he went up against 230...230's got mad skills...Big HURT went out 5th round and PAPA Z lasted till the 3rd...Good luck next time...

The name of this piece is "Lilly Pink." Shes the one panel that I have done that is pain full to look at...For me she carries alot of lost hope, a constant second chance for a situation with the same inevitable negative result...This was the first panel that I actually manipulated two photos together to get the pregnant girl, it really pushed my skills...In the end I was happy with how it took shape and evolved...

It was a piece that was not easy to part with, but the things you hold on to most in life should be the things easiest to let go of...Just be content that they were in the first place...Be happy with were your AT not were you've BEEN...

I always watch women's fashion just as close as I watch mens...Womens lines tend to have alot more little details because the lack of overall attire, hehe! None the less when I saw these gloves It triggered the THRILLER video...Were MJ is morphing into the werewolf, or maybe catwoman...Anywho these are sick I'm sure they look dope with gold accents...

D-Face!!!

When the "Street Art" boom started, there were maybe a handful of artists that were really doing stuff that was intriguing...Most people around my circle started to really gravitate towards Banksy's and Shepard Fairey's work. But all along there was D-Face, hands down one of the most influential street artists in my opinion. What's great about D-Face is that his medium is anything that he can get his hands on ie: Aerosol, Wheatpastes, etc....

I remember being lucky enough to snag a copy of "Overspray," the special charater issue. They had this interview with D-Face were he carved a huge can of paint with his signature wings out of ice!!! Shit was cold...That really said something about how an artists mind is adaptive to circumstance and medium...I was a huge fan from then on...

Founded in late 2005 with no intention to record an album, La Coka Nostra was more a loose collective of artists connected through Danny Boy than a group. Having taken time off from rap after the break-up of House of Pain, Danny Boy took to working in video production and fashion as well as mentoring other artists. He met Slain in Boston and, impressed with his writing, brought him to L.A. to record some tracks. Eventually it turned into more of a group effort including the former members of House of Pain and Ill Bill, as well as associates from Psycho Realm, Special Teamz and others. It was not until early 2006 that the current line up solidified, plans to release an album were first voiced later the same year.

In late 2008 the group signed to the punk/hardcore label Suburban Noize Records and released the long delayed debut album A Brand You Can Trust on July 14, 2009. The album took so long to complete due to Danny Boy's refusal to have the artist collaborate via e-mail; instead, he would gather everyone at the studio. This took time due to the recording of Ill Bill and Everlast's solo albums as well as various tours and other commitments. A Brand You Can Trust features 15 tracks and guest spots from Snoop Dogg, Bun B, Sick Jacken, B-Real, Sen Dog, Immortal Technique, Big Left and Q-Unique. Though similar stylistically to the group's prior online releases, it features songs grounded more in reality. Some subjects touched upon include politics, death, drug addiction, raising a child and terrorism.

My brother passed this article on to me that was in the new THRASHER...It was about ditch skating. Burque being the sweet city that it is, jus so happens to rein king when it comes to ditch setups...Well never far from the ditches creeps the PARASOL KILLER, a stencil campaign I did a few years ago, I'm happy that they have survived for so long...

This fat boy of a wheat paste still needs a home...It's probably the six or seventh version of the parasol killer...

I usually do a strictly acrylic piece after I do a scratchbord...It helps to clear my head...I also utilize these paintings to get ideas out of me that have been clogged...It's kinda of like a massive idea bomb just exploded on wood...I didn't like this panel when I first started but overtime it really grew on me...The character's name is Agatha...I snagged the bat character from my favortie cartoon Transylvania 6-5000...I'm thinking about getting him tattooed, that would be fly...! get it...bat------fly.

Open to the public, the reception for “India” will take place on Saturday, August 15 from 7 to 10pm, and the show will be on view until September 3, 2009.

Carlos Ramos was born and raised in Burbank, California where he was obsessed with Nintendo, Garbage Pail Kids, Iron Maiden album covers and Mad Magazine.

Throughout his youth, he continued to develop his artistic interests and graduated from the California Institute of the Arts with a BFA in Character Animation and later went on to teach Character Design and Storyboarding at Cal Arts. Ramos has created numerous shows for Cartoon Network, Walt Disney Studios, and Nickelodeon, including The X’s and Chalkzone, which garnered him an Annie Award for Individual Achievment in Art Direction.

His talent also extends to writing for animated television series such as Cartoon Network’s Time Squad and Whatever Happened to Robot Jones. And last year, he was commissioned by Nike to create print advertisements and a painting installation for its Mexico City store opening.

Ramos’ work has been featured in numerous galleries including Gallery 1988 and I Am 8-Bit, and he co-hosted the Burning Brush auctions with Tim Biskup. He currently lives in the Silverlake Hills with his Boston Terrier Bucket and enjoys running, shooting at the LA Gun Club and doing stand-up comedy in Hollywood. -Vincent is the story of a young boy, Vincent Malloy, who pretends to be like the actor Vincent Price (who narrates the film). He is obsessed with the tales of Edgar Allan Poe, and it is his detachment from reality when reading them that leads to his delusions that he is in fact a tortured artist, deprived of the woman he loves, mirroring certain parts of Poe's "The Raven". The film ends with Vincent being tortured by the goings-on of his make-believe world, quoting "The Raven" as he falls to the floor in frailty, believing himself to be dead.

Tim Burton hands down has to be one of the most visionary influences throughout my life...His grimsly imagination has been the fuel to my fire for years and years...

-A little insight into my early inspirations that have retained as much value as when I first fell in love with them...I would say that 75% of all my inspiration comes from over the pond whether it is: SubCrew, Anime/Manga, Scooters, A Bathing Ape( Not BAPE!!!), Bounty Hunter, Swagger...Japan has always pushed me as an artist/designer...The constant reinvention of Americana that Japan has become known for...Taking American Cultures and really stamping that rising sun vibe over them, making them fresh and innovative...Is what really holds my attention...One day I will make my pilgrimage to my inspirational mecca...

I really try to post artists that really grab my attention...Nicola paintings are amazing in composition and movement...I have always admired painters that put the time and energy into oil...Although there is an amazing school of acrylic painters...I've always felt that acrylic lacked a luminescence that oil paintings carried...Nicola's paintings remind me of Van Arno's...But I think it's just becasue they both carry the same theatrical quality.
